What You Need to Know for the 2025–26 Season
¡Hola, La Liga! We're kicking off something new. WhoWon.co.uk is expanding beyond the Premier League to bring you full coverage of La Liga, Spain's top-tier football league, just in time for the 2025–26 season starting this August.

A Quick Kickabout with History
La Liga, or LaLiga EA Sports for sponsorship purposes, dates back to 1929. It's produced some of the greatest footballing moments (and rivalries) the sport has ever seen. Think Real Madrid vs Barcelona – El Clásico isn't just a match; it's a cultural event.
Spanish Giants – Teams to Know
- Real Madrid – The most successful club in La Liga history with 36 titles. Expect galácticos and goal fests.
- FC Barcelona – Not far behind with 28 titles and a style of play that’s more tiki-taka than kick-and-rush.
- Atlético Madrid – 11-time champs known for making life miserable for the big two.
- Athletic Club, Valencia, and Real Sociedad – All big clubs with loyal fanbases and plenty of pedigree.
Who's New for 2025–26?
Joining the party this season from the Segunda División:
- Levante UD – Back in La Liga after three years away.
- Elche CF – Promoted with flair after smashing Deportivo La Coruña 4–0.
- TBD – The final spot will be decided via playoff between Real Oviedo, Mirandés, Racing Santander, and Almería.
When It All Begins
The season kicks off in August 2025 and wraps up in May 2026. Expect goals, drama, VAR controversy, and probably a goat or two escaping onto the pitch. (Okay, maybe not that last one.)
